YORK – The mural design has been selected, to be painted on the north side of the Sun Theatre, by the York Creative District Advisory board.
The design is pictured with this story.
“We think it’s stunning,” said Clark Roush from the advisory board. “But we need your help. We allotted $20,000 from a Nebraska Arts Council grant and the bid from Omaha artist, Jasmine Young, came in at $30,000. Part of the expense is to protect the art from any vandalism and make the work last for many decades. We currently have $21,000 and a pledge of $250 from a local business and are waiting to hear from some other asks. We need to raise the extra funds as soon as possible so we don’t lose the artist to another project.
“Let’s beautify that big white wall and give York and people passing through an incredible work of art to enjoy,” Roush said further. “Will you help this dream become a reality? If you would like to donate, you can write a check to York Creative District and drop it off or mail it to the York Municipal building at 100 East Fourth Street, York, NE 68467. Please mark “mural” in the memo line. Donations of $50 and more can be made online via the York Creative District website.”
